Alabama High School Athletic Association Rule Change Concerning Group Lessons and Clinics

Mr. Savarese, the AHSAA Executive Director, has informed area coaches of the rule change.  Tennis players who participate at clinics or take semi-private lessons during the season are in violation of the AHSAA outside participation scrimmage rules.  He clarified the rule by stating that it means it is illegal for players to participate in junior development or tournament training sessions (or any such clinics by a different name).  A player may take an individual lesson from a pro.  Several High School tennis coaches are planning to petition the AHSAA for a rule change, but it will not affect this season even if they are successful.
